Types of UPVC Door Handles

When your upvc door handle is in need of replacement, it's important to find the right replacement for your home. Locksmiths can provide and install high-security uPVC handles with added security features.

The most important measurements to consider are the measurement A (also called PZ) along with the length of the backplate. Check these measurements to ensure that your new uPVC handle will fit.

Lever/Lever

A lever is a solid bar that is pivotally positioned around a point (known as a Fulcrum). When you apply a force at the end of the lever, it is likely to cause it to turn the fulcrum in the direction of the force. This rotation multiplies your force and lets you lift or move things that would normally require more force to lift.

The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point where you apply force determines the maximum movement. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The mechanical advantage increases when the lever is extended. You can calculate mechanical advantage by dividing the distance from fulcrum point to the point at which you are applying force by distance between the fulcrum's point and the end of the lever.

Levers can also have different effects depending on how the forces are applied. A class 2 lever for instance is prone to turning in the opposite direction once the effort force is applied. If you push on the handle of a door and force it to open, the forces will cause similar rotational effects to this.

However, levers don't create energy. They multiply the force by converting small amounts of effort applied over a long distance into greater amounts of force applied over smaller distances. This is what enables you to do more work in less time, which is the reason why levers are frequently used for lifting heavy objects or moving large quantities of cargo. The lever principle is employed in everyday tools such as crowbars. Hammer claws fishing rods, hammer claws, and your own legs, as you stand on the hand brake of your vehicle.

Lever/Pad

Lever/Moveable Pad

This popular handle style is commonly used on front doors. It has the advantage of preventing the door from being opened without an outside key when the lock hasn't been deadlocked. This is achieved with an external handle that is shaped like a pad that locks into the gap between the handle and the lock case.

This handle is designed to work with uPVC multipoint locks that use a split spindle mechanism. This type of operation requires that the lever handle and external pad handle both be fitted to the same lock case. This could be a straightforward change from the current uPVC handles for double glazed doors, but it could also require a change to the lock case or a brand new set of handles to accommodate this additional function.

These levers/movable pad handles are suitable for uPVC doors. They feature a slide bearing that is maintenance-free fixing lugs, fixing lugs and spring cassettes included. These handles have a euro-profile cut out, and can be fitted to various uPVC or wood doors.

The lever moveable pad is available in various styles to match a wide selection of multipoint locks. They are designed for use with split spindle locks which have a centre cylinder of 92mm and require a specific set of split spindles supplied by the lock maker.

Lever/Moveable Snib

The lever handle is one of the most popular types of upvc door handles and is available in a range of designs. It has two moveable inline handles and can be locked with either a key or a thumbturn cylinder that is inside. Pad handles can be used as an alternative to lever/lever handles. It is made up of a fixed or moveable pad that can be used to operate locks. These Fullex handles have a sprung lever pad and a snib that can be turned on to secure the latch.
