Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers love the convenience of their key fob's remote features. Using a smartphone app, they can lock and unlock the vehicle and start the engine and even locate the vehicle.

Put the key fob face up on a clean surface. Find the button that will let it go. Put a coin between the fob cover and the fob, then carefully pull it up.

Unlocking the Doors

If you're using a brand-new Volvo model that we have in our dealership, then you may be unsure of some of its key fob's hidden features. One of these features is a manual lock/unlock button that you can press in the event your key fob battery dies.

The key fob should be held with the Volvo logo facing upwards to press the manual lock/unlock. Find the black button that is situated near the edge of the key fob's body and gently press it to unlock a cover that hides the manual key blade. The cover can be turned counterclockwise by using a flathead or coin.

Start the Engine

Modern volvo sport key key fobs offer the convenience and performance that is unmatched by manual keys. But, just like any other battery-powered electronic device, a key fob can lose its charge, or cease functioning over time. If you notice that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock button, it may be time to replace the battery.

You can enable this feature by using the key fob in case your car is equipped with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The car will then cool or heat to the exact temperature it was at while parked. It can run for up to 15 minutes.

Use a fingernail to remove the cover from the back of the key fob. Under the cover on a diagonal close to the edge of the body, you'll find the button. Remove it by sliding it downwards and to the right. The cover will be released and slide off, revealing the manual blade! If you're not able to locate the button, search the now-revealed manual key access for the lever or slot that is hidden.

Close the Windows

Volvo key fobs feature a hidden feature that allows users to instantly lower all the windows. This is great when you're trying to squeeze into a tight parking spot, or even just when you're in need of fresh air inside the cabin while driving.

Press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower all of the windows, as well as the sunroof if it comes with one. Then, when you're done driving you can lock everything by pressing the lock button again for four seconds.

You can also use your key fob to turn on your car's panic alarm. This will emit a loud, attention-grabbing blare that can scare off thieves and help you get home safely after a long night out. This feature is handy when you live in a dangerous area or want to keep your family safe while away from home.

Opening the Tailgate

Volvo has packed its key fob with many useful features. They are perfect when you have your hands full with shopping or helping your kids pack their sports gear after a workout.

If you have the Hands-Free Liftgate with Logo Projection and Programmable Height (if equipped) then you can open it by using the key fob. Just press the button to open it, and press the same button to close it when you're done.

When you're ready to start your vehicle, use the key fob to push the START button (and don't be concerned about the battery dying or your car not starting since it has a backup mechanical key slot as well). This is just one of many useful trick to use with your new volvo key Volvo.

The Alarm is turned off

Modern key fobs provide many advantages over a conventional mechanical car key. But, they're not working completely for a long time, and the batteries will eventually fail. If you're in a hurry, or aren't keen on going to a shop to have your key fob reset, you can attempt to get it to work at home.

Find a clean work surface and lay out your key fob, battery and other keys. Place the key fob in a place with the Volvo logo facing up Then, locate a small black button to the bottom left of the fob. Slide it downwards and to the right. The cover should fall off and expose the mechanical key blade beneath.

You can open all doors and the rear gate by pressing the unlock button on the key fob two times. The lock button also closes the sunroof and windows (if fitted) by pressing it for two seconds. Connect the battery and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't, then the owner's manual should have a way to reset the alarm.
