French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

French-door refrigerators are a perfect blend of form and function. They have elegant double doors that open to reveal an enormous fridge on top, and a freezer drawer beneath. These refrigerators stand out because of their distinctive features, including door-to-door dispensers and more expensive ice makers.

We asked experts like Ladina Schopf, interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects, for tips on choosing the right model. We looked at the storage capacity, layout, and energy efficiency, among other features.

Like its name implies, GE’s Profile series is aimed at people who want to integrate cutting-edge features in their kitchen. This refrigerator is packed with them, from an in-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a clever water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This fridge is expensive and I was expecting better.

Aside from that blip however, this refrigerator is a fantastic choice. It comes with a huge freezer compartment, which is quite uncommon in counter-depth french door fridge bottom freezer door refrigerators. Furthermore, it holds a fair amount of frozen food when as compared to similar models.

The drawers are easy to open and shut, but I found the plastic's textured coatings to be a bit rough on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator is equipped with a full suite of features you'd expect from a refrigerator in this price range with Wi-Fi and app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app is available on iOS and Android devices and lets you manage your refrigerator from anywhere in the globe. It also comes with many options for customization. It will also send you notifications when the door is unlocked and when the freezer or fridge needs to be defrosted, and when the filter needs to be changed.

It would be nice if GE PYE22PYNFS included Precise fill it's an option in a handful of other GE fridges that allow you to choose how many cups of water you'd like to dispense at a time. The fridge displays a countdown timer to reveal how much water is left, but it's not as effective as Precise fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

It is designed to look like a seamless piece of your kitchen Bosch's French door refrigerator is an eye-catching piece. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also comes with a veggie compartment that keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer, and two compressors for the best preservation of food. The ice maker we tested was one of the most efficient and makes pyramid shaped ice using minimal water. This fridge is ideal for a small household or kitchenette that needs an attractive design and top of the best food preservation.

This fridge was the top-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test, for various reasons. The freezer temperatures remained steady at just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, never fluctuating by more than a fraction a degree--this is key to avoiding freezing burn. The fridge's refrigerator section also performed well, reaching the desired temperature for initial set within an hour and maintaining that temperature steady over the course of our tests.

Bosch is known for its top-of-the-line appliances which is why it's no surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance with the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi and Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app lets you monitor and control the refrigerator remotely using your smartphone or tablet. The fridge is expensive however, it offers excellent features and capabilities at a reasonable price.

It's important to understand the limitations of your fridge. It is possible to be creative with tall items because the fridge has a small shelf space. The shelves are not spillproof and can easily be damaged or stained by sharp items. It's easy to remove the trays in the fridge, but be sure to clean them frequently to prevent mold growth.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is a great counter-depth refrigerator that packs a lot of storage into a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge has an ordinary French-door design with gallon-sized bins for the doors on each door as well as two rows of shelves for spill-capture and a set of crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded down to make space for tall items. There's also a full-width drawer for deli and an inside water dispenser.

The refrigerator comes with an ice maker making it simple to transfer frozen ice as needed. The freezer is designed with thoughtful elements, for instance, sliding drawers that help better organize the placement of your items. It also has a large container for storing frozen food and a separate container for ice.

Another awesome feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. It allows you to control the fridge's temperature, lighting, and more using your smartphone. It's a nice way to control and monitor your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat however it doesn't improve the efficiency of the fridge. The refrigerator took longer to chill food and defrost it than the other fridges we tested. This is probably due to its greater capacity.

The doors are another problem with this fridge. The handles with a sunken design let shorter people open them from the bottom. However, taller people still have a hard time closing them without slamming. It would have been much better if these had front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is a great choice for those looking to blend the look of a French door refrigerator with an efficient design. It has a capacity that is higher than average for counter-depth models, and it cools evenly. It's also less expensive than the best counter-depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which can make it a popular choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire french door fridge freezer non plumbed door refrigerator is a good option when you're looking for a French door fridge that won't break the budget. It has a simple design that isn't as striking visually like some of the competitors, but it has enough features to make it a solid pick. Its most important feature, the adjustable temperature drawer, helps to keep food like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge ice maker and a water dispenser.

The "Chill Drawer", which sits above the two crisper bins, is another nice feature. The drawer allows you to divert some of the fridge's cooling power directly to this area, which means you can put away food items that require special attention. I have found that the generic settings are more effective than the specific ones.

During my experiments, I noticed that the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent in different parts of the fridge. The temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge didn't vary significantly from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a great performance, but it doesn't quite make it to the top of our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also connect this fridge to an intelligent thermometer to get more precise measurements of your fridge's temperature.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's outside is made of grey-bodied stainless steel with a "smudge-proof" finish. It blocks streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've seen.
