Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

Item upgrade, also known as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts the stat linearly.

Players can recycle up to six items at a time in order to gain a level gauge for each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling a piece of equipment increases with their rarity and item level.

Upgrade components

In Guild Wars 2, an item upgrade is a way to increase the stats of your armor and weapons. This can be accomplished by various methods such as the use of upgrade components and also upgrading an item's mark level or rarity. Many items can also be reforged to boost their value.

You can find upgradeable items throughout the game. They are available throughout all over the world, as well as rewards for missions. Players can also craft them. The primary method to upgrade equipment is through the use of upgrade components which are components that can be inserted into equipment. The number of upgrade components required for a specific item can be seen in the upper-right corner of the Upgrade window. The cost of upgrading increases with the level and rarity of the item increases. However you can lower this cost by purchasing upgrades from a merchant or trading them with other players.

Most weapons can be improved with a prefix, such as a rune or an insignia. Other weapons can be enhanced with an suffix. These upgrades can be used to add an adjective to the item's name for example "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".

Glyphs

Glyphs are a powerful tool to communicate visual information. They are animated to grab the attention of the viewer and spark curiosity. The animation of glyphs resembles body language, making them more effective in communicating messages across language barriers. Glyphs also evoke a sense of familiarity in the brain, which increases retention of the message.

Each glyph has a set of values it can increase a stat's value, as shown on the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use it to enchant an Artifact. This range is not the exact amount at which the glyph will increase the stat, but rather the maximum amount by which it can increase a stat. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and the quality of the item you are in awe of it.

The majority of upgrade items components installed into items cannot be removed or replaced without removing them except for legendary upgrades and equipment. However, if you have an unusable rune or glyph that hasn't yet been applied to your equipment, you can transfer it to a different piece of equipment by utilizing the Upgrade Glyphs context menu on the Glyphs panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

If you want to remove the glyph from an item you must save it using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. The item where the glyph is placed will be destroyed, however the upgraded item can be retrieved by removing the glyph fragments.
