Top Rated Robot Vacuums

A robot vacuum can keep the floors clean enough to cut down on the frequency at which you have to manually vacuum. Select a vacuum that has good robot vacuum navigation, is able to clean corners and stairs and has large bins that will need to be emptying every so often.

There are models that mop and charge themselves, which is a feature essential for families with pets or children. Many of the best performers in our tests have great obstacle avoidance.

1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling, the i3 EVO, are identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ a great choice for people who want a hands-off, fully automated cleaning experience but don't mind manually emptying their robot's dustbin when it is full.

Both robots are proficient at removing surface dirt on floors and carpets and can navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart map of your home to aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean efficiently. However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots that we tested, the i3+ doesn't have obstacle-avoidance capabilities which means it can get stuck on things such as socks or power cords and it may have trouble traversing transitions across surfaces, such as from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot recommends clearing areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, which includes getting rid of any clutter or toys it might encounter. It's also recommended to keep the dust bin and filter clear so they do not become blocked by dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is empty it will return to its docking station and automatically emptying its trash into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning where it began. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for approximately an hour and a half continuous use, and takes about three hours to fully recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line and comes with the latest technology. It's self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most significant feature is its auto-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for routine maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to create maps of rooms so that it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot via the app or voice.

The i7+ is faster and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin which removes major maintenance sources and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to begin, stop, or pause cleaning sessions as well as move around the room and even vacuum a specific area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. When connected to these services, we were able communicate with the i7+ using voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an all-sports car that is amidst a sea of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households, but it also fits perfectly next to a coffee table or on shelves where you can wave it around like an enchanted wand.

The V10 is powered with seven cells of energy-dense Lithium-ion batteries that can provide energy that lasts for 60 minutes. Its sophisticated whole-machine filtration system traps allergens and releases cleaner air back into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpet to collect large crumbs and fine dust. It comes with three suction settings to meet the task that is being completed. It can quickly change from floor vacuum to handheld vacuum, and vice versa.

The model also comes with an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in around 3.5 hours, and gives users easy access to two attachments as well as a wand clip. This is a huge improvement over previous Dysons that require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.

The main issue with the V10 is its short running time. Its marketing claims that it can last up to 60 minutes of running time are misleading as CR's tests show. This is an average and not a remarkable run time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. That's still enough run time to clean most of a typical-sized home, but not quite long enough to get every single spot (though a second run-through usually will suffice). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more mobile than previous Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is significantly better for carpet floors with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

The 694 is a basic robot vacuum that's a great option for those who don't have lots of money to spend on a robot vacuum cleaner on sale. It's capable of sucking up a variety of types of debris and sizes during our tests, and often passes over the same areas several times to get a really thorough clean. Its flat front allows it to reach the corners and the edges of walls.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and help you navigate your home. It's not equipped with the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, including our top picks, i3+EVO and j7+ Series. This means that it may get stuck on things like phone cords or low furniture, and it frequently is power-depleted before making it back to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot cleaning machine is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694 in that it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning, comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, incurs lower recurring cost and has more advanced automation abilities and can better maneuver its own. It also has a larger dustbin, and charges more quickly.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also comes with physical boundaries strips that can be controlled with the voice assistant on your smartphone. It's also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and is more effective on floors with bare or low-pile.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a brand is seen on a variety of home electronics, so it comes as no surprise that they're one of the most reputable robot vacuum and mop manufacturers. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app offers a variety of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers mopping water levels, behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and much more. It's simple to comprehend and easy to use, just as is the case with other Samsung devices.

In our testing, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and dealt with dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86% of it. However, it did not do particularly well with higher-up objects like cords or socks, which was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models we've tested, and this could be a deal breaker for certain shoppers.

The app allows you to manually steer the robot, if necessary. My living room rug, for example, has a darkly-colored border which could cause a problem for other robots. The HRV 425BL however, continued to move across the border without ever registering the edge. The ability to program a weekly cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving convenience.
