The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it will leave your floors spotless. Its affordable price and high-end features (such as dirt detectors) are a plus.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've test. They have motors that are top-of-the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots that vacuum and mop also come with Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot cleaner that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuum that vacuums and mops we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it will cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Finally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd expect from its price tag. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot vacuum that mops mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app also provides access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
